AI- Artificial Intelligence

 AI is the flavor of the month. Be it in stocks, what it does etc. My theory is it makes you dumber and dumber. 

    Remember there was a time when you could remember phone numbers of known people and could dial of a landline.  With mobile even your house number or your wife's number is to be checked on phone.

    Remember there was a time when you used to add up to a four digit number across 20-30 rows and could total. With Excel, you have probably forgotten to add a two digit number and need to XL to get the answer.

    Remember there was  a time when you used to add/subtract/multiply/divide mentally small digits. Now you need a calculator.

With google, it used to be google says. Now with AI it is AI says.

AI is far more dangerous. Google at least searched databases and gave an optimum reply. AI is being trained by you (LLM- large language module) on how a human THINKS (remember IBM had the logo THINK in its office to make its staff more creative) and acts and makes repetitive  process redundant. Soon you will lose the ability to think and inform AI to do it.

AI has found ways to create reports, summarize pages of materials, emails etc in both academia and business making education redundant.

People are wondering what courses to take - lawyers (AI can read millions of books and cite references and law cases), Accountants ( Read rules and make entries on its own), Teachers (can read and teach), Investments (go through Qtr, Annual reports, xirr, pe, pb etc. etc and provide investment tips) and so on. Only CREATIVE work cannot be replicated. 

Recently, I did an experiment- Writing an APP. By giving right questions, Claude generated in 15 mins what i wanted (see my App blog) by writing codes in Json, python, html etc and a free host site. Ofcouse, for putting it up in android or apple play stores you have to pay which i did not do as it was an experiment.

AI can start a nuclear war, destruct many things, possibly give process to make bombs (rogue person or countries can use) or even plan a perfect murder. All these concerns has made the top guns of AI to say to Slowdown till we bring in more security  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 JOB SITUATION

As, AI intrudes into our life quiet fast, the impact is felt a lot in the job market as traditional jobs redundancy is there replaced by AI.

This was already felt when inhouse Support centers started getting replaced and replying to queries and was outsourced by Companies for cheaper labor in India, Philiphines, Malyasia etc centers.

The above was a preview of what was to happen. Now these centers are replaced by auto call (press 1 for task 1, press 2 for task 2 and no option to go to an operator also). Further, replies to email, WA, Twitter are now done through BOTS and human interface is gone.

The 3rd wave is now on its way, replacing standard jobs with AI tasks. Like presentation on a power point, data analysis, coding etc. etc. which has started but may soon open up like a flood with accounting, legal, secretarial (already medical records or known as transcriptions are being dictated and type automatically).

So, only jobs where it requires creativity or newness which AI cannot be taught will be the jobs that will be in the market. Learning new things and bringing in a different perspective to  work will matter more. 

Even movies, thought to be the most creative and difficult, are now coming with so many options and people are using editors and uploading them and getting them eye-balls. Already, AI generated heroes and heroines can b created.

Trade Skills vs Knowledge Skills- The fear of AI

 With Artificial Intelligence gaining ascendancy and everyone jumping on to the band wagon, a thought occurred to me that the Knowledge based skills like finance, MBA's, lawyers etc. will soon become redundant as the knowledge will be all with the likes of google and anyone can search and use AI to get a solution.

Many clarifications, like what computer I want to buy based on my requirement, what type of agreement required for a particular action, etc is easily done with the help of CHATGPT. And this is just one of the tool. So, what does knowledge based AI do that a human can also do. It takes the information available and analyses and provides solution as per your requirement. Take for eg. to file a tax return, it will seek some basic information and then use the database of knowledge of the tax information and churn out a tax return for submission to the IT department. Eg is clear tax. Thus a CA or Tax consultant is made redundant.

Or to prepare a business plan, one may not need an MBA to do. Put in the basic inputs or even that is not needed in an ERP environment(Enterprise Resource Planning), which may have past data and looks at trends (which an MBA also does) and churns out a 10 year forward Business plan, cashflow and various other reports.

Even for doctors, the symptoms put out and AI generated reports of your blood, pressure, heart rate etc. makes an ordinary doctor redundant as all the 5 years knowledge from the Harrison's Principle of Internal Medicine, Gray's Anatomy etc. are input in AI.

Even for translators, Google and other machines fluently translate and speak on your behalf in a language you choose.

Thus Knowledge based info is thus passe'. What will be required in future is the physical aspect of skills. That is someone whose physical presence may be required to help out. Examples of such ones are Nurses, Plumbers, Farmers, Electricians, Surgeons etc. who has to physically come and sort out the issue. Even software guys will be made redundant - already with GITHUB, standard routines are put up there and people can easily copy the coding.

Trade skills will be the key learning of the future. And the value of those will increase.
